The announcement of RAW DNG image support for the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 created a wave of excitement with photography enthusiasts, and inspired others with its potential. We’re equally excited to announce it’s now available for Lumia 1520 as part of the latest Nokia Camera update.

The RAW DNG (Digital Negative) format is what the professionals use as standard and Nokia is the only company to bring it to its smartphones. It enables the photographer to create truly original photos based on pure, untouched visual information.

“It has been a key request from so many of our users for a long time now. People who are passionate about photography can be more creative and do more with the images from their Nokia Lumia than ever before.” says Juha Alakarhu, head of imaging technologies at Nokia.

Once you’ve downloaded the latest version of Nokia Camera to your brand new Lumia 1520, you’ll need to select DNG in the capture mode. You can find this within the camera settings, as per the screenshot below. You’re then ready to start snapping the world in RAW.

Typically, a digital camera of any type saves a JPEG file where the image processing is already done for you inside the device. With RAW you save a completely untouched image ready for you to process using software like Adobe Lightroom and unleash your creativity.

Because of this, the RAW file is larger than that of a typical JPEG.

Transfer the RAW DNG file to your PC using Windows Explorer for desktop, or use the latest version of Nokia Photo Transfer if you have a Mac. Both support the new DNG file format.

Nokia Camera with DNG support is now available for Lumia 1520, and it will be coming to Lumia 1020 aligned with the next software update, called Lumia Black, in early 2014.
